My story

Twenty years
of starting again.

I’m Eric Maina. My interest in sustainable health comes from living with the question myself.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve lost weight and regained it several times. It’s made me think a lot about what helps people keep the weight off.

That experience shapes my coaching. I’m interested in what people can sustain when work gets busy, family needs their time or the routine they planned stops fitting their life.

What I bring to this work

My background is in business development and customer experience across Kenya and the United States. I hold an AoEC Practitioner Diploma in Executive Coaching.

Coaching has given me a way to listen, ask questions and help people think through changes that matter to them. I now bring that to health and sustainable habits.

Still learning, still listening

I’m learning from people’s experiences: what makes change difficult, what support helps and what they can sustain in everyday life. I’m continuing my education in health and behaviour change.

I want the people who connect with this work to help shape it. Different ages, backgrounds and circumstances bring different questions. I’m listening.

My coaching qualification is in executive coaching. Medical care, nutrition advice and exercise prescription belong with appropriately qualified professionals.

What I want to keep talking about

Health comes first. I want to keep saying that and to make the starting point feel possible.

I’ll write about weight management, food, strength and everyday movement, drawing on my own experience and research. My wider ambition is to help make movement and recreation more accessible in Kenya.

That includes looking beyond someone’s routine to the places where we expect them to make changes. My first health essay asks a simple question: we tell people to walk more, but where?

Room for Health

Room for Health is where I bring this into coaching: a twelve-week programme for busy professionals who keep restarting or postponing their health. See how it works.
